Well, I have finally got around to uploading the photos from my winter holiday.

From the 26th of Dec 2004 to the 3rd of Jan 2005, David, my houhai (academic junior), and I traveled to Okayama, the srrounding towns of Kurashiki and Tamashima, and also travelled to visit a friend in Osaka and visisted the cities of Nara and Tenri. We stayed with my friends who are of the Tenrikyo faith.

(More info about Tenrikyo is here.)

We travelled around using JR "Senshyuu Jyuuhachi Kippu" (roughly translates as "The 18(th) Springtime (teenage-hood) of our life ticket" - yeah, like that), a ticket that allows you to travel anywhere in Japan for a 24hour period using the slower trains (no shinkansen (bullet trains), unfortunatly). It took us 10 hours to get from Kumamoto in Kyushyu to Kurashiki (halfway between Hiroshima dn Osaka, thereabouts...). お疲れ様でした!!

The trip was a great chance for me visit the homes of many of my friends and for David to experiance Japanese culture for the first time. We saw and experianced quite a lot of "old school" Japanese culture, including sleeping on zafuton with a Japanese garden outside. A lot of young Japanese kids have never done that!

Thanks to everybody who helped out for making it a memorial trip. Special thanks to Nahoko san, the 1,110,333 many Harada tachi san, Kanda okusan, the crazy Japanese girls on the train, the staff of the Tamashima church, the staff of Kanda's Church, the staff of Moriwake's Church.

An extra best thanks goes to Kanda san, Moriwake san and, of course, David kun. ありがとうございました!!

Note: this is the wrong date, but fotopapges doesn't seem to let me change the date of an entry once I7ve uploaded it; the correct date was Saturday, October 30, 2004.

We all were taken to a Japanese sword maker and we all had a chance to cut, slash and parry with real Japanese swords. Also, a Japanese martial arts display was held.

got to see the sword making stuff--lucky
great martial arts stuff--now show me "sand the floor" daniel-san!

Finally some updates... Scroll down to find these new dates:

October 1st, 9th, 10th, 17th and (Nov/Oct) 30th. (I screwed up the date of the one below.)

Also, here are some old photos for the laptop I got a few months ago (the one I'm on now)... sme people have asked to see it: a Japanese issue (w/Japanese kb), HP NX9110, Celron 2.8gHz, ATi Radion Mobility 9000 (W00T!) and a Buffalo/Melco 801.11a/b/g wireless PC card.

3,333 steps to pain

At this famous tourist trap, you can climb 3,333 steaps up a mountain, as monks did in years past. I have not been in that much pain for a long time....
